Commissioner News:

Roundtables:
District Roundtables are always the second Tuesday of every month and are held at the Fellowship Hall of the Central United Methodist Church in Radford from 7:30-9 p.m.

If you happen to have an idea or request for our roundtable events, please call Mike Blouse (Boy Scouts) or Melissa Obenhaus (Cub Scouts) at the numbers listed above. We are working hard this year to make our roundtables as informative and educational as possible. Our goal is to plan effective breakout sessions for each program area that speaks specifically to the program needs of our units. This being said, if your unit has a specific program need that you would like addressed, or if you have a program specialty which you can share, we would like you to contact us to help develop a short session to help other units.

Also, please know that it is very important that you send a representative from your units to attend the roundtable events each month. There are several units that do not attend these meetings, which contribute to the lack of communication from within the district. We want all of our units to be well informed and on the same page regarding district business and events. There are also many materials that are distributed at these meetings which are missed if they do not attend. I realize that some units have their meetings on this same Tuesday, but perhaps you could send a committee chairman or charter representative to keep your unit informed. We want to have a successful district here in New River and we can only do this with volunteer participation. Volunteers are the life blood of this organization.

Are You Interested in Being a District Commissioner?
If you are, then we need you! Our district serves 67 units and counting across Floyd, Pulaski, Montgomery and Giles counties, including the city of Radford. If you have an interest or want to give back what Scouting gave you, please contact Chris Dempsey or Lois Davis and we will find a place for you. Being a unit commissioner is extremely rewarding as your goal is to observe and serve three of our district's units and help guide them along the path to success. You say you don't know how to do this; well, you are not alone among new unit commissioners. We will train you to not only so you can do the job, but so you can enjoy it. There are few things more rewarding than helping a unit succeed and provide a quality program for our boys and girls.
